Be kind to other writers who don't realise this isn't a good tactic. Sorry to sound funny but don't believe that because you think you are patient, everyone feels the same as you. You can just scroll past stories you don't like, it’s that simple. Nobody can speak for how others feel or what they think and nobody can control what others do. There is a lot of this going on. Let writers learn for themselves. There are thousands of writers on this platform, so no one writer can speak for every writer or reader. There are lots of things writers shouldn’t do or could do better, etc, so better to let writers just write in peace. We’re adults writing here, not kids at school. I realise you may think it’s helpful to tell writers not to put something like “read for 30 seconds”, etc in their story, but shaming writing and comparing it to begging isn’t a nice thing to do. No one is begging. No one forces me to read anything and nobody should be forced to read. I enjoy reading on medium and read more than write stories but no one forces me. If I don’t want to read something I skip past it. I clicked on your story to read it when I saw the photo of a beggar on the street, as I wanted to know what that was about. My motto is “control yourself, not others”. I think the advise itself about not asking people to read for 30 seconds is sound, and I don’t dispute the advice but comparing it to begging is a form of shaming, I feel. I can’t speak for anyone else, these are my thoughts.
