Brilliantly written story. Great answer to being asked where you were born. I am not as optimistic, and don't like questions like that. In my country, there is much discrimination, in sectors - housing, etc. Now very much against immigrants too. Although I was born in my country, I don't always feel I belong. I have lived and worked abroad a long time, and many here begrudge others. It's like a national pursuit. I was born in another part of my country, but moved back to an area, I have no strong connection to, other than living in the area before. I have no friends or family in this area, but my biological ancestral origins stem from the county I live in. I was shocked that people who are 'natives' from the county and even so called friends, discriminated and strove to socially exclude me. These people felt justified doing this, drawing my attention to how I don't really 'belong' here. It seriously undermined my sense of identity.
