I admire your honesty Dawn. Some editors can be very difficult and not clearly communicate. I don't mind private notes, but not if they are unnecessary, unclear and unhelpful. I had a recent bad experience with one editor, who initially I found very helpful but it didn't last long. After that I found some her 'advice' nit-picking and trying to write the story for me, or taking control of it. Even once sending me private note saying she didn't agree with another editor publishing one of my stories, as she noticed something after it was published. The final straw was when I had a full stop in a sentence, and such a ordeal that was, as it ended up the story didn't get published properly over a lack of timely communication, and I had to do it all again, just over a full stop. It was so frustrating. It got to feel like publishing was an ordeal, not a way to tell my story. Editors have a responsibility to care about the stories entrusted to them.
