I agree with this. Older generations grew up with authoritarian parents, who beat them with the belt. This kind of discipline and obedience can become internalised in later life. Therefore we don't obey brutal authority. You're right that we shouldn't act on the basis of fear but do the right thing! There is no escaping that.
