I can understand your frustration and have experienced it myself. At the end of the day publishing in a publication is time consuming for editors. I realised the hard way, patience and understanding is required. The way I solved it was by having a back up plan, rather than get annoyed if my stories weren't published as I desired. So, for example, there are some choices, such as self publishing or submitting the story to another publication.

Editors don't get paid, and it's voluntary on their part. They have lives also and things that get in the way of editing, along with their own writing. It's a patience thing I think. Ideally editors should get back to you at some point to let you know if there is a problem. But again, they maybe hard pressed for time and there aren't enough.

For example, I edit in a publication, voluntarily but I have also things I must do in my life, and can't possibly be on my computer all the time. I just try my best and if I can't edit someone's story, I know another editor will. Any story I edit, I either publish it or leave a private note.

It can feel editors are ignoring you and sometimes I felt the same. It's not an easy situation.
