I think it's good to read other's views but make up our own minds. I've read some very interesting perspectives, but felt that most had a positive element to them. I value honest appraisal and there were some thoughts I would never have considered or known about. It gives a better overall picture.
In general I think our minds are also receptive to both positive and negative, and in this regard I agree. It's particularly important if we are vulnerable to negative thinking, or in a situation where we are not being dealt with honestly or respectfully. I've read very good stories about writers valuing respect, transparency and communication, which appears to be lacking. This in turn may feed our imaginations, so these issues do have other consequences.
