I think this also happens to women. I know men who receive a lot of emotional support and women who receive absolutely none. I know men are conditioned to be tough, don't cry etc, but women can end up the same without emotional support. Depending on country and culture people live in, emotional support, openness etc can be greatly lacking and undervalued.
