I think you rightfully pointed out the complexity of such situations. That it maybe a once off etc but alternatively maybe a symptom of underlying even unresolvsble issues. It is good not to be judgement, as people involved in such situations need to think of many aspects and independently for themselves. It is their future and that of their children at stake. I truly don't have answers either but repeat offenses would be extremely wounding to say the least.
