Thanks Dawn, tbh, I ended up getting quite upset over it and left the publication entirely. Aside from that experience with the editor, it was a strong community and I was getting traction. I guess things happen for a reason though, and it's good to also have ownership of my work, as I put a lot into it, and as you say, writers own their stories not editors. I am always willing to work with editors when they are reasonable. I guess it's given me a heads-up anyway about how some publications work, and I've learned from it. If it happened again, I might not just do as you did, and submit my story elsewhere, which I could've done I guess - but too late now!
