There are so many deep lessons from this horrific tragedy. The two young children were likely terrified, confused and went back inside to what was familiarity, hoping their mother would appear. I cannot imagine the horror of that dark miserable night and the terror they felt loosing their mother. They went back to the only place they knew for comfort and safety, and it killed them. This is a powerful lesson that comfort and safety isn't always what keeps us safe. Those children suffered greatly and were truly "left behind" in every sense of the word.
