This is a beautiful story, where you are so deeply affected by tragedy around you. It's shows enormous empathy and selflessness, to share the plight of your fellow human beings. That's how we should write, I believe! There are times when I distort real pain I feel, but it always comes out. A bit like starting to write a certain story but being affected by all those other things you mention - the suffering and sadness. Seeing even a glimpse of happiness, a smile, flower, etc, in the midst of evil, is hope, even if shrouded in sadness and suffering. It keeps the spirit alive!
