This would've stopped the scammers.

…and sudden crash — and the one in September ‘23 — why not implement ID verification for membership? Government issued photo ID and another piece of ID like a utilities bill or bank statement etc.?? Isn’t that a pretty easy fix? Certainly, it would have to help!

This would've stopped the scammers. On a site like this, it was a no brainer. Their failure to implement authenticating measures opened the door for abuse and fraud.
