Wow, that just ruined your christmas. It almost feels like your landlady did it intentionally to upset you. It's inappropriate to text you on Christmas morning with that. Unfortunately these situations aren't easy to deal with, even with a contract. Contracts also can be manipulated, and it's very important to know your rights as a tenant and stand your ground. Sometimes you need to fight for your rights. I am sure, even despite a lack of contract, you do have rights. However, if you are living in the landlady's home, those rights may be diminished. In the meantime, focus on what you can control - your emotions, until you decide what's best to do. Also, I think you might be better off in your own place. Sharing is always stressful. I have my own place and don't share, and it's bliss. It's horrible being forced to share with people you never agreed to share with, in the first place. You've got to decide whether it's worth fighting for, or moving on, but don't make any rash decisions. Controlling your emotions is the best thing you can do at this time.
