Wow, this is such an inspiring and amazing story. Writers can be fearful indeed. I haven’t published a book but even publishing on medium I can worry about "what if’s". No one reads, etc. But confidence is something you have to push through and when you do it gets. Writing is a craft and a serious one. It isn’t as easy as people think.
