Yes closing yourself off from possibilities is a drawback.

This year, however, I decided to change my approach. I began walking around the city with an open mind and heart, dropping off my CVs. Initially, it was uncomfortable, but soon I started noticing the magic around me.

Yes closing yourself off from possibilities is a drawback. It's easy to do if there are many obstacles but means you could be kidding out on good opportunities.
