Yes, stories need to show the "take aways" and lessons. Some, however can be difficult to write, but something provokes us to write them, so there maybe an important lesson there. Even if it's not to write them.

I once read a story title about why writers should profit from their trauma, which seemed intriguing. I never got to read the story, but seemed it was questioning the worth of why our trauma should be profit making (ie) getting paid for reads. There does seem something contradictory about sharing our deepest suffering and at the same time profitting. But I never read the story. It seems to question whether we should be profiting from our trauma by writing about it.
